Bio:

Jonathan Ledesma is a PhD student in the International Research Training Group StRATEGy and holds a diploma in Geology. He studied at the National University of Cordoba, Argentina and is currently working at CICTERRA (Research Center on Earth Sciences). His primary research goal is aimed at understanding the factors that favored and controlled the development of individual and / or restricted intermontane basins in the context of the fragmented Andean foreland of northwestern Argentina. The main studies needed to achieve this goal are based on stratigraphic arrangements of clastis successions, sedimentological analysis, and thermocronological studies.

Emilio J. M. Criado-Sutti is a Ph.D. student in the International Research Training Group StRATEGy-Arg and holds a diploma degree (licenciatura) in physics from the University of Salta. He's in a cotutelle program of the CUAA-DAHZ with the National University of Tucumán, the University of Salta and the University of Potsdam

He is a staff member of the IBIGEO (CONICET-UNSa) institute. He interested in the seismic activity of the Lerma Valley and is working on recent earthquakes distribution in this area. His background is in applied mathematics, especially in non-local diffusion models in classical epidemiology.

Bio:

Valentina Cortassa is a PhD student in the International Research Training Group StRATEGy-Arg and holds a diploma degree (licenciatura) in Geology from Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Argentina. She's in a cotutelle program with the University of Buenos Aires the University of Potsdam.

She studies the subsurface of the Chacopampean Andean foreland basin using mainly 2D seismic reflection lines and borehole information. For her research, she applies a combination of seismic interpretation, structural geology, sequence stratigraphy, and basin modelling.

His primary research goal is to propose a model of the Pliocene-Quaternary tectonic evolution of the southern Lerma Valley in northwestern Argentina. He combines GIS analysis, tectonic geomorphology techniques, and the identification and characterization of sedimentological and structural markers of Pliocene and Quaternary deformation to better understand how the tectonic activity has evolved over the last 5 Ma.

His research focus is neotectonics and geomorphology of the Metán Basin and Candelaria Range in the Andes broken foreland, North-Western Argentina. This project involves a combination of field geology, geomorphologic, seismic interpretation and structural studies to characterize the recent deformation and the lasts stage evolution of the Andes broken foreland.

Sophia Dosch is PhD student in the International Research Training Group "StRATEGy” and member of the geomorphology section at GFZ Potsdam. She holds a M.Sc. degree in environmental science from the Technical University Braunschweig.

She is interested in how earth surface and climate interaction drive fluvial organic carbon transport and transformation. Her research focuses on where and how organic carbon is mobilized and transformed during its riverine transport.

She combines leaf wax biomarkers and geochemical, stable and radiogenic isotope-based approaches to understand the processes of riverine organic carbon transport and transformation across tectonic and climatic gradients.

M.Sc. Gregor Lauer-Dünkelberg

Bio:

Gregor Lauer-Dünkelberg is a PhD student in the International Research Training Group "StRATEGy" and a staff member of the Geology working group at the Institute of Geosciences, University of Potsdam. He holds a M.Sc. degree in geology from the University of Potsdam, where he studied the great [M ≈ 8] Mongolian earthquakes of 1905, focusing on their paleoseismological record and associated recurrence intervals.

During his PhD project, he focuses on fault scarps and attempt the identification of regional deformation phenomena on the Andean Plateau (Puna), an area proposed to be seismically inactive, but densely covered with signs of active deformation. Studying fault scarps and morphotectonic markers of the area with paleoseismological and tectono-geomorphic techniques will bridge the gap between seismogenic deformation on shorter and longer time scales.

As such the results will help to decide, where shortening across the Andean orogen is accommodated and how the tectonic activity has evolved over time.

M.Sc. Michaël Pons

Bio:

Michael Pons is a Ph.D. student in the International Research Training Group “StRATEGy”, and a member of the geodynamic modelling section (2.5) at GFZ Potsdam. He holds one M.Sc. degree in earth sciences and tectonics from Orléans and Rennes. His first master thesis focused on the contributors of the topographic signal of the Deccan Traps and his second master thesis on the earthquakes impact on the gravity field. The aim of his research is to develop a thermomechanical 3-D numerical subduction model to investigate the interplay between variations in the strength of the South American upper-plate and in the slab roll back rate of the Nazca plate.
