Bio:

Uwe Altenberger is principal investigator in the International Research Training Group "StRATEGy" and holds a professorship in structural petrology at the University of Potsdam. He applies a combination of field-based metamorphic petrology geochemistry, fabrics and resources. Major topics are deep crustal shear zones and deep crustal frictional melts as well as the regional geological evolution of “old” orogens. However, his current research is concentrated on the characterization and evolution of rare earth element and Li-deposits as well as Nb-Ta. Recently, he started with the study of rare earth element transport from rock to soil and plant (possible hyperaccumulators and exploration tools). The main localities of investigation are Scandinavia and South America. Furthermore, he works on the mineralogy of monuments (less destructive analytics).
