Leonardo Elías is a PhD student in the International Research Training Group StRATEGy-Arg. He holds a diploma degree (licenciatura) in Geology from the National University of Salta. He's in a cotutelle program with the National University of Cordoba and the University of Potsdam

His primary research goal is to propose a model of the Pliocene-Quaternary tectonic evolution of the southern Lerma Valley in northwestern Argentina. He combines GIS analysis, tectonic geomorphology techniques, and the identification and characterization of sedimentological and structural markers of Pliocene and Quaternary deformation to better understand how the tectonic activity has evolved over the last 5 Ma.
