One of the most challenging aspects in geology is determining the thermal history of a sedimentary basin and/or mountain range. Alphachron apatite and zircon (UTh)/He thermochronology, combined with fission track and vitrinite reflectance measurements, provide definitive temperature-time history constraints.

Ed Sobel offers the opportunity to learn more on Alphachron data reduction and the interpretation of apatite (U-Th-Sm)/He data in a 4 hrs workshop.

The (U-Th-Sm)/He lab is equipped with an Alphachron automated system for helium measurement. We can measure 24 aliquots in automatic mode in less than 1 week. We collaborate with PD Dr. Johannes Glodny in at the GFZ Potsdam. He is responsible for sample dissolution and analysis of U, Th and Sm using ICP-MS. At present, we are only analyzing apatites; we are now working towards analyzing zircons.

In the flyer below you will find information how to register.
