For more details on the conference follow the link below.
Martin Zeckra, "StRATEGy" PhD-student, will give a talk on seismology and earthquakes at the school, where he did his college-degree. He will use this opportunity to bring children and their parents closer to this exciting field in geosciences. Furthermore, he will introduce the international research training group "StRATEGy" and the framework of his research in NW-Argentina.

After one year of funding we welcome the first "StRATEGy" PhD-students and guest researchers from our argentine partner universities at the University of Potsdam and the Helmholtz Center Potsdam - GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. We are looking forward to stimulating discussions, collaborative lab-work, and exciting research and cultural exchanges.
Here is the list of people we are expecting for a research visit during the next couple of months.

"StRATEGy" PhD student Sebastian Zapata Henao started his 6-month lasting stay abroad in Córdoba (Argentina) at the Center of Research in Geosciences (CICTERRA). He is enrolled at the University of Tucumán and will use this opportunity to take courses and workshops to get a binational PhD degree. Furthermore, he will do several fieldtrips to his study area in the Salta province to collect data and rock samples in the framework of his project.

On May 25th, 2010, Argentina marked 200 years since the 1810 May Revolution. That date commemorates the movement that led to Argentina breaking away from imperial Spain and separated itself from the Spanish monarchy.
News, portraits, and reports in the fields of teaching and research have been published in the supplements of the daily newspapers "Tagesspiegel" and "Potsdamer Neuesten Nachrichten".

Mitchell D'Arcy - "StRATEGy" post-doc and researcher at the GFZ Potsdam - received the Wollaston Fund Award 2016 from the Geological Society of London.
Since 1831, the Wollaston Fund is awarded anually to contributors to the Earth Sciences on the basis of noteworthy published research. The award is named after William Hyde Wollaston (1766 - 1828), who was an English chemist and physicist and is famous for discocvering the chemical elements palladium and rhodium.

Our geophysics team in Argentina is making progress. The team was integral part of a press conference, where they presented a new cooperation between "StRATEGy" and the local municipality of the city of El Galpón. On October 17, 2015 the region suffered from a magnitude 5.9 earthquake, which was felt over a 680 km stretch of NW Argentina.

The StRATEGy team will be present at this year's Potsdam Day of Science at the Film University Babelsberg "Konrad Wolf". An open event, not only for people who are interested in rocks and minerals, earthquakes, and tectonics, but also for the whole family. We will present some experiments and demonstrations, where we try to answer the following questions: "Where does the mountains come from?" and "Have they always existed?"

"StRATEGy" has e new logo. Since we have not been completely satisfied with an early solution, we developed a fresher and more modern cooperate design for "StRATEGy". Now, the new logo integrates the national flags of Germany and Argentina, the Earth, and elements of the individual work packages.
We thank Dr. Heiko Pingel for his creativtiy and consulting.
A collection of different official logo artwork can be downloaded below.

The funding period of the International Research Training Group "StRATEGy" of the German Research Foundation (DFG) starts today. Within in the next 6 years two generations of PhD students will be trained. The program includes 13 German and 10 Argentinian PhD projects, which cover the topics climate, surface processes, tectonics, basin modeling, geodynamics, and georesources in the Andean foreland basin of Argentina.
